Having officially unveiled the Aston Martin DB12 earlier this week, the British sportscar maker has announced that the first production car was purchased at a charity auction last night for $1.6 million.

The Aston Martin DB12 was also presented at the amfAR Gala in Cannes, France, offering the elites from the entertainment industry a chance to own the first production car. The charity auction was attended by Grammy award-winning host Queen Latifa, actors Rebel Wilson, Fan Bingbing and models Sara Sampaio, Bianca Balti, Heidi Klum, Stella Maxwell and Alessandra Ambrosio.

The DB12 Launch Edition gets a few special touches by the brand’s bespoke service – ‘Q by Aston Martin’, to celebrate the marque’s 110th anniversary. These include a special fender badge, headrest embroidery and a unique plaque on the door sill of the cabin.

The Aston Martin DB12 is powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine which now produces 34% more power than the outgoing version. This has been achieved with new camshafts, larger turbos and a reworked cooling system. The peak output of 671 hp and 590 lb-ft is even higher compared to the V12 DB11. The engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox, which enables the GT to sprint from 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds, topping out at 202 mph.
