A few years ago, Tesla registered a company in India and announced its entry into the Indian market. However, Tesla’s wavering stance on entering the market has caused anxiety among prospective buyers. The company has put its aggressive plan on hold after lobbying efforts with the government failed. Nevertheless, there are already many Indians who own the highly sought-after Tesla vehicles, both domestic and foreign. Here we have a list of famous Indians who own Tesla.
Tesla Model X
The celebrity actor was among the first Indian owners of Tesla cars. He received a Model X as a gift from his wife, Genelia D’Souza, although the car is not currently in India. Several years ago, Riteish was spotted with the swanky, red-colored Model X. Just like many actors from the industry, he owns a variety of luxury cars. He even bought a brand brand new BMW iX electric SUV in India. BMW iX has a price tag of Rs 1.21 crore, ex-showroom.
Tesla Model 3
Former Miss India Pacific and actress Pooja Batra owns a Model 3 in the USA, where she spends a lot of time. She posted a picture with the Model 3 a few years ago. Although the Model 3 is Tesla’s entry-level model, it still carries a luxury price tag. This was actually the model that was expected to be launched in India by Tesla. Model 3 was also spotted testing in India after the brand announced their entry into Indian market. Tesla Model Y was also spotted as part of testing in India.
Tesla Model X
Prashant Ruia, the CEO of the Essar conglomerate in India, became one of the first owners of Tesla cars in the country, as well as the first celebrity owner of the model. In 2017, Ruia imported the vehicle to India and has since been spotted driving it on many occasions. The exact variant of the vehicle remains unknown, but the electric blue color of the Model X certainly catches the eye.
Tesla Model S 100D
Undoubtedly, the garage of the Ambani family is one of the most diversified in the country, with not one but two Tesla cars in their collection. The first one they acquired is the Tesla Model S 100D, a high-performance sedan powered by multiple electric motors that generate a combined power of 423 PS and a peak torque of 660 Nm. The car can reach 0-100 km/h in just 4.3 seconds and has an electronically-limited top speed of 249 km/h. The Model S 100D has a claimed range of 495 km.
Tesla Model X 100D
The Ambani family’s second Tesla is a high-performance variant of the Model X SUV, also known as the 100D. One of the unique features of the Model X is its rear doors, which Tesla calls “falcon wings” because they open upwards, similar to gullwing doors. This design makes it effortless to enter and exit the vehicle. Additionally, the doors open and close automatically and have built-in sensors to avoid hitting adjacent cars or the garage roof.
