The seventh generation BMW 7 Series is available in three powertrain options: Petrol, Diesel and Electric. The BMW i7 will be imported via the CBU route and will take on the Mercedes EQS.

BMW has launched the seventh generation 7 Series in India. The limousine is available in three powertrain options: Petrol, Diesel and Electric. At launch, BMW is offering the 740i M Sport priced at Rs. 1.70 crore and the all-electric i7 xDrive60, which costs Rs. 1.95 crore (ex-showroom). The diesel variant will be introduced later.

The seventh-generation BMW 7 Series comes with a radically new front fascia featuring an enormous kidney grille flanked by split headlamps with LED daytime running lights on top and the main headlamp cluster below. The car gets new design alloy wheels and horizontal LED taillights at the rear.

Inside, the new 7 Series gets a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It comes with a new flat-bottom steering wheel, touch-sensitive controls on the centre console, a gear selector and the traditional iDrive controller. One of the highlights of the new model is the massive 31.3-inch 8K roof-mounted theatre screen and 5.5-inch touchscreens positioned on the rear door handles.

The BMW 740i M Sport is powered by a 3.0-litre petrol engine that produces 376 BHP and 520 Nm. The engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission allowing the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 5.4 seconds. The top speed is limited to 250 km/h.

The all-electric i7 xDrive60 uses a 101.7 kWh battery pack that powers a pair of electric motors, delivering 536 BHP and 744 Nm. According to BMW, the i7 can sprint from 0-100 km/h in 4.7 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 239 km/h.

The i7 is said to have a maximum range of 625 km (WLTP cycle). The battery can be charged in 10.5 hours using an 11 kW AC charger and in about 5 hours using a 22 kW AC charger. A 195 kW DC charger can add 170 km of range in 10 minutes.

The BMW 7 Series takes on the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and the Audi A8, while the i7 electric sedan rivals the Mercedes EQS.
