We all-know that Mahindra has been working on a new product which is scheduled to be launched next year. It is none other than the 5-door version of their popular 4×4 SUV Thar. We have come across several spy pictures and videos of the upcoming Mahindra Thar but, now we have a detailed video that shows how the upcoming SUV looks like. A completely camouflaged test mule of the 5-door Thar was recently spotted testing and the detailed video is based on that.
The video has been uploaded by Talking Cars on their YouTube channel. In this video, both the presenters talk about the things they noticed in the test mule which was looking more like a production ready version of 5-door Thar. Starting with the front, the SUV was looking just like the 3-door verison. Mahindra is offering the same grille and round halogen headlamps with integrated fog lamps in the bumper. The design of the bumper in the test vehicle was looking just like the 3-door version. The overall length of the SUV is longer than the 3-door version. The wheelbase is longer and that is evident in the video and it looks well proportionate.

The desing of the alloy wheels on this Thar were looking similar to the one we see 0n the regular Thar but, with minor changes. The rear wheel arch cladding was missing in the test version and the video mentions that it was affecting the overall look of the vehicle. One of the major confusion that many people had about the 5-door Thar was the placement of the door and the roof. The front door of the SUV is the same as 3-door but, the rear doors are slightly smaller. The rear section of the Mahindra Thar gets spare wheel mounted on the tail gate. The rear windscreen is just like the 3-door version.
Dimension wise, the car looks bigger and that evident in the video. The interior of the Mahindra Thar is similar to the three-door verison. The roof is metal and does not get any provision for removable top (at least in this prototype). The door handles, ORVMs, tail lamps were all looking a regular Thar. The SUV seen here was a lower variant and it did not come with any infotainment system. The steering wheel had conrols mounted on it and the 4×4 lever can be seen here too. What makes this SUV even more practical than the 3-door version is the boot. It gets a large boot space with second row seats up and the second row seats on this test vehicle were not the final one as there is a gap between seats and the body of the car. As of now, there is no clarity on how Mahindra will be naming this 5-door version. The SUV will be powered by the same 2.0 litre turbo petrol and 2.2 litre turbo diesel engine but, unlike the regular Thar, these engine would be offered in a different state of tune. The SUV is expected to be launched in the market in January 2023.
