BYD sets another sales record in July 2022, new centre opens

BYD has set achieved its highest monthly vehicle sales on record, with 162,530 sales a 222 per cent increase for July over the same month a year ago.

This news comes as thousands of local BYD Atto3 order holders wait for the start of their deliveries, and a second showroom looks set to open in Kirrawee, in Sydney’s south.

What does this mean for the months ahead for these customers and Australian deliveries?

The latest sales data show a trend of increasing sales throughout 2022. It was 22% ahead of June, when BYD sold over 134,000 New Energy Vehicles (Battery EVs and Hybrids) with a focus on pure battery EVs.

Highest sales include over 22,000 Yuan Plus/Atto 3 sales

The sales reports for July also show the best month for BYD’s Australian-bound Atto 3 (known in China as the Yuan Plus). 22,172 Yuan Plus were sold last month and hundreds of these are now in transit to customers in Australia and New Zealand.

There is certainly quite a bit of interest in Australia for this EV as seen at the recent BYD Brisbane launch where hundreds of people attended the event to see it in person.

The affordability factor is the key to the success of this ground-up EV. Along with thousands of local order holders, I am really looking forward to seeing the first shipment get to our shores. That would be a big milestone for EV uptake in Australia with more affordable models from BYD and others to follow over the next 12 months.

New BYD centre in Kirrawee

A couple of weeks ago, local BYD customers received an update of the national BYD experience centres rollout. Now one of the sites in NSW has been spotted to have BYD branding on the outside and is located in Sydney’s southern suburb of Kirrawee next to Volvo on the Princes Highway.

This could very possibly be the site of BYD’s Sutherland’s experience centre that was outlined in the experience centres email sent by EV Direct last month – we’ve contacted EV Direct to check and will update this article if more information comes to hand. That’s good news for those looking to test drive the Atto 3.
