Ford has applied the tough-truck treatment to its smaller and more affordable Maverick pick-up in the US – but for now it remains a left-hand-drive model, which rules it out for Australia.

US buyers of the Ford Maverick can now order a more off-road focused variant of the company’s smaller and more affordable pick-up.
The Ford Maverick is priced and positioned below the Ford Ranger and even bigger Ford F-150.
However, its street cred has been given a boost with a new ‘Tremor’ edition which adds more off-road ability and tougher looks.
Due in US showrooms next month, the Ford Maverick Tremor carries over the turbo 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine on all-wheel drive grades.
The $US2995 ($AU4320) Tremor off-road package includes a number of mechanical upgrades such as upgraded springs and shocks, a locking rear differential, stronger half-shafts and a larger transmission cooler.
Alongside a 25mm increase in ground clearance, a redesigned front bumper has been fitted with a steel skid plate and tow hooks.
Drivers can choose between five drive modes – pavement, mud, sand, snow and towing – as well as Ford’s ‘Trail Control’ system, a low-speed cruise control which can be used off-road.
Black Ford logos, headlights and tail-lights combine with a ‘Tremor Orange’ grille insert and dark grey 17-inch wheels for a tougher exterior look.
In addition to the Tremor’s mechanical upgrades, buyers can purchase the Tremor Appearance package for $US1495 ($AU2150).
This includes a ‘Carbonised Grey’ roof and mirror caps, as well as black side graphics on the bonnet and lower body.
The Maverick’s front seats now feature stitched Tremor logos and orange contrast stitching, while the orange highlights are also applied to the centre console, air vents, and door pulls.
Because the Ford Maverick has only been developed for left-hand drive markets – namely North America – the car-derived ute is not likely in Australia any time soon.
